La Mine de la Lappiaz, Avoriaz
Take a stroll to the old slate mine
The historical discovery of slate in Morzine dates as far back as 1732. Found in all the cliffs overhanging the Valley de Sous le Saix (Slate Valley). In the Lappiaz mine, the slate was quarried and made use of between 1856 and 1963.

Directions
Along this walking route the entrance to the mine may be wet and slippery so take caution when walking children this way. Starting from the 'Falaise' sector of Avoriaz and walking between the Malinka and Saskia buildings follow the sign for Proclou, keep going along the Col de la Joux Verte, this will take around 20mins. Once at the mine go back and turn left onto the footpath that runs below the Morzine-Avoriaz golf course. Keep going along the trail through the woods and follow the signs to 'Ferme de Seraussaix' where if you time it right you can catch local cheeses being made. From here you want to take the footpath that goes towards Avoriaz and takes you through meadows with lovely views. You will end up following this path to the golf course club house and then you can take the same route back to Avoriaz.
