Top 10 Activities to do in & Around Avoriaz This Summer

Our pick of some activities other than hiking or biking for you to try this summer

featured in Activity reviews Author Alice Gregr, Avoriaz Reporter Updated

Avoriaz is well know for its many cycling and hiking routes, not to mention its mountain biking. I was chatting with hairdresser Beckalina Stewart at the weekend and together we've come up with a list of alternative things you might want to try out in Avoriaz during the summer.

Number 1: Fantasticable, Chatel

“It’s awesome,” says Bex. “You’re strapped in and flung across a canyon”. Fantasticable Zip Wire isn’t for the faint hearted. It’s a 3 kilometre ride located at the top of the Chaux Fleurie lift in the Les Lindarets area. The views up there are pretty epic but at speeds of up to 100km/h you might not see everything. Fantasticable isn’t open in bad weather and it’s not for kids either. It’s around 36 euros for one person. Speed demons. This is your thing.

Number 2: Summer Luge, Morzine

If you like a slightly slower, less superman-like adventure, Bex suggests the Luge in Morzine centre. “It’s a great thing to do with your mates”. There are two runs of different speeds so it’s one the children (if they’re over the age of 5) will enjoy as well. Prices start at around 6 euros.

Number 3: Parapenting, Avoriaz and surrounding areas

“IT LOOKS AMAZING” says Bex. And she’s right. Avoriaz wouldn’t be Avoriaz without the hundreds of colourful parachutes that float in the sky above the town throughout the Summer AND the Winter. You’re launched from a point half way up the road to Avoriaz and usually land behind Felix Ski in Morzine. Prices start from 55 euros and shoot up if you want to do daft things like 360 degree flips!

Number 4: White Water Rafting

White water rafting comes next in Bex’s list of suggestions. You get taken off down the river Dranse to face the swirling rapids and whirl pools but with expert supervision it’s pretty good if you’re finding the sun and the heat a bit too much. Prices start from 39 euros.

Number 5: Canyoning

Sticking with wet activities! Bex says canyoning in the Portes Du Soleil is pretty good. It’s open to anyone over the age of 12 who can swim – abseil down waterfalls, plunge into canyons, paddle through pools, find your inner tarzan. It’s not really weather dependent, as you’ll get wet anyway! It’s around 50 euros for an adult.

Number 6: Adventure Park

“The Gorilla thingy” says Bex, a go ape style activity called the Cascade adventure. Just out of Morzine on the road to Nyon, the cascade adventure is for the whole family, with rope swings and zip wires for the over 12’s and a kiddies circuit for the younger children. It’s 10 euros for children and 20 for adults. [There's also one in Les Gets].

Number 7: Crazy golf at The Aubergade Hotel

“It’s so bad, it’s good!” says Bex and it’s clearly one of her favourite things to do. It’s an inexpensive thing to do while you have a drink in the sun at the hotel. According to Bex, it’s not the most well kept course but this adds to its charm, making it very retro and cool!!

Number 8: Lac Montriond

I absolutely love the lake at Montriond. The views there are outstanding and with the bluest water I think I’ve ever seen, you can’t really beat it as a picnic or BBQ spot. In the summer there’s a splash pool for children and you can hire pedalos, canoes and kayaks. It’s not surprise that the building on the lake is booked up for weddings for a good few years to come!

Number 9: The Dereches River

There’s a great trail along the river in Morzine. Start out at the Palais des Sport car park, which is free for four hours, and just follow the river! You can visit the horses at the stables during the summer and also have a go at the high wire playground. For the little ones, there’s also a play park with slides and a seesaw.

Number 10: Aquariaz in Avoriaz

I looked after a 2 year old in Avoriaz who absolutely loved the pool there. It’s great fun for children and adults. It has a great splash pool with slides for little ones, plenty of bubbles and a lovely hot tub with incredible views out across Morzine.. It’s 8 euros for adults but you can easily spend a good few hours there if it’s not too busy!
