What's on in Avoriaz April 2019

Spring has sprung, and it’s quite literally Avoriaz’s time to shine. If this April is anything like the last, we can be expecting plenty of snow and a month of blue skies. Fortunately throughout March we’ve had a healthy dose of the white stuff, now we have until the 22nd April to make the most of that ski pass.

Perhaps you have some holiday days left in your working calendar, or you’ve already booked your trip around this years’ Easter break, either way, Avoriaz is the place to come and spend some time if you like sun, snow and winter sports.

Spring Xperience - March 31st to April 7th

This month, Avoriaz welcomes the Spring Xperience for the first time. This week-long event will take part in various areas of the resort, and includes workshops and competitions based around the snow sports that we love. The week kicks off with a Quicksilver Banked Slalom race, open to all ages. Wax your boards, straighten your fix, breathe good vibes and let your boards dance in the banks with our teams riders. Also available at this event, test boards from Nidecker, Jones and Flow. For those who follow the Freeride World Tour, this is big news – Avoriaz will be host one of the French Freeride qualifiers during the Spring Xperience week. Registration is open to a limited 100 competitors, and the categories include ski man and woman, and snowboard man and woman. This is a fantastic opportunity to watch top skiers and snowboarders ride a legendary face in our resort.

The Red Bull Schuss will be held on the Arare face, along with the Pipe Ground comp on the Arare half-pipe, which will be redesigned specifically for this event and the international riders taking part. Electronic mountain bikes will feature during the week in the Snowcross Race Matrix, which you can register for online for free until April 4th, when the event is held. This race will be held at the Chapelle Park, which from the top has a great view of the surrounding area, and is the perfect viewpoint for this occasion. As if there weren’t already enough extreme sports to take in, there will also be speed riding demonstrations from France’s number one speed-rider, Valentin Delluc. This again is a fantastic spectator’s sport, so to make sure you get a good sport, keep an eye on the event either online or via the tourist information centre upon arrival in resort. Throughout the course of this week there will also be live concerts around town, and special offers on accommodation and ski pass packages.

Child's play

As the European spring holiday start at the beginning of April this year, there will be a number of events and activities suited to children of all ages going on in resort. As previously mentioned, the Quicksilver Banked Slalom on March 31st is open to all ages, so for some family friendly competition, head over to the town centre, where the slalom course will be built. There are weekly events on the daily schedule too, including karaoke at Le Roc bowling bar every Monday night at 21:00. Though this may not be an activity for the really little ones, it is certainly entertainment for the teens and adults in your party. Even if you can’t make it on a Monday, the bowling bar is a great place to spend an evening, just make sure you book a lane to avoid disappointment.

New this winter throughout April there will be a chocolate workshop held at the festival hall every Friday at 16:30. For just €12 you can learn how to craft your own chocolate, taught by a professional chocolatier. There is no age limit for this activity, and with Easter just around the corner, what better time to make some sweet treats for you and your loved ones? To book, contact this number via SMS +33(0)6 84 34 36 75, or head to the tourist information office for more details. The daily entertainment programme is updated weekly, so keep an eye out for one-off events during your stay.

Closing weekend - April 21st & 22nd

Although festival season in the mountains has been and gone, with RFM’s Winter Week, Rock the Pistes and Snowboxx having left our slopes for another year, the party isn’t over until we say it is. There are still three weeks left to go, and if anything, the winding down starts now. The atmosphere in resort at this time of year is unbeatable. Finally, seasonnaires have more time to ski, the slopes are generally quieter, and the closing weekend parties are imminent. If you’ve got the time and disposable cash for a cheeky weekend away to ski and send it, get out here for April 21st and 22nd. There are a wealth of bars and restaurants in town, but these are the ones to watch for the best closing weekend parties: Happy Hours Bar, Chez Flo, Les Trappeurs, La Folie Douche and Village Igloo. Times, themes and dates haven’t been announced yet, but if you follow their social media accounts you’ll find out when they do.
