Ski in Avoriaz this Easter 2018

Enjoy the best spring skiing has to offer

featured in News & reviews Author Roz Tod, Avoriaz Reporter Updated

This time last year, the forecast for Easter was looking fairly bleak. Not in terms of cold winds and rain, in actual fact, it was somewhat tropical over here, although that’s not what you want when booking a ski holiday. This year, however, the outlook is much more seasonable, snow is still settling and the mountains are looking better than ever.

Late March into April is my favourite time of year out here in Avoriaz. Milder temperatures, fewer people and slushy snow make for a happy seasonnaire. These are a few reasons why Easter is the time to visit. The atmosphere in the town and on the slopes is generally better than any other time, as people are winding down and enjoying the final stage of winter.

Long weekend

This year, Good Friday falls on the 30th March and the following Monday 2nd is a Bank Holiday. This means that you could plan a trip leaving late on the 29th and arriving back on the 2nd without having to take any time off work. Avoriaz is a great place to spend a long weekend, there’s as much or as little to do as you like. Ski, visit some of the best cafes and restaurants in resort, relax and enjoy yourselves. See more about how to make the most of your weekend here.

Why Morzine is Great for Kids

Free kids pass

If you’re a parent, you will inevitably be looking for ways to entertain the little ones during their Easter break. Although you may think that a ski holiday is an extravagant way of amusing them, it doesn’t have to be an outrageous expense. Avoriaz are offering a free under 12’s lift pass with any adults Portes du Soleil pass to be used between March 30th-2nd April. This fits nicely with your long weekend and won’t break the bank.

Cheap flights

You would have thought that Easter is a costly time to travel, especially when so many people are constrained to kids’ school holiday dates. Surprisingly, EasyJet are offering return flights from London airports to Geneva from less than £60. If you plan in advance, you could bag yourselves a seat to the mountains for less than a night out would cost you. These seats will sell fast though, so get in there quick, otherwise have a look at your other flight options and which airports are best for Avoriaz

Winter Natural Games

Planning a trip with your mates? Check out the Winter Natural Games, coming to Avoriaz for the first time from the 11th - 14th April. This festival marries snow sports and music, bringing with it top riders from across the globe. If you love watching pro-riders do their thing and relish the thought of a music festival in the mountains, this is the perfect time to visit. The competitors have a lot of prize money at stake, so it’s guaranteed to be thrilling for spectators. If you fancy seeing something a little different, there will also be a slacklining show to watch. This year, world record holder Nathan Paulin will wow the crowd by walking 250 metres over them.

Aside from these points, there is so much to do in this beautiful French resort to keep you entertained. The Portes du Soleil is one of the largest ski areas in the world and there’s no better time to see it than when the skies are blue and the snow is in pristine condition. There’s a lot of area to explore, right at your ski tips, and with it being a less popular time to visit due to the uncertainty of the snow coverage, you may well have some of the runs to yourselves. So, what are you waiting for? See you this Easter!
