Avoriaz Roof'n Slopestyle a great success!

The first ever Avoriaz Roof'n Slopestyle freestyle bike event took place on 14th/15th July this year. After a slightly delayed start whilst the course dried out following heavy rain showers, the competition kicked off on the Monday night with the best trick jam in the centre of the resort. Won by British rider, Sam Pilgrim, the remainder of the event took place under perfect bluebird skies, much to the delight of the watching crowd. We couldn't quite believe our eyes when we read about this latest event in the summer mountain calendar that's taking place for the very first time in Avoria. From Sunday 13th until Tuesday 15th July, it's the Roof 'n' Slopestyle event in Avoriaz. But this is no ordinary slopestyle mountain biking event, as the bike park isn't going to be built in the village square (that would be too dull!), but literally on the roofs of those big residences in resort! Get out your hiking boots, dust off your mountain bike and slap on the sun cream – summer is officially here! Today the lifts open up to walkers, bikers and paragliders and we can get back up the mountain after what seems like far too long. This weekend heralds the official opening of the Portes du Soleil summer season as the entire summer lift network opens up to welcome hikers and bikers for the next two months. This opening weekend, however, it’s all about the mountain biking and 3500 riders will be descending on the PDS resorts to take part in the annual Pass’Portes du Soleil bike tour around the entire area. read more...

As of the 1st July 2008, it will become law in France that motorised vehicles must carry a warning triangle and a high-visibility security vest - and yes, that techincally includes holidaymakers who drive themselves from the UK to Chamonix for a ski holiday for example. read more...

Verbier local and British freeskier Warren Smith has been set a new challenge – this time on wheels rather than skis! Last winter Lawrence Dallaglio, the former England rugby international and Wasps captain, took to the slopes of Verbier for 3 days of ski coaching with Warren, culminating in tackling the 35% descent of Mont Fort. Whilst chatting on a chairlift Lawrence invited Warren to take part in a charity bike ride with him and a few other sportsmen; possibly before realising the extent of the challenge Warren happily agreed.
