Avoriaz Transport & Parking
| Transport & Parking in Avoriaz |
|
As a traffic-free resort Avoriaz offers plenty of convenient parking, public transport and nice pedestrianised streets. Access from the nearby Geneva airport is quick and easy and you may find that to bring a car with you will prove unneccessary! However, should you decide that driving is the best option here is our guide to transport and parking in resort. |
| Car Parking in Avoriaz |
Avoriaz is a car free resort so you will have to leave your vehicle in one of the indoor or outdoor parking areas. There is a large covered carpark - Falaise P1 & P2 - at the entrance to Avoriaz which is open 24 hours a day and can accommodate up to 800 vehicles. Parking fees are 12.50 per day or 76 per week and longer duration passes are available. Booking in advance is recommended and you can do so here (NB. The height restriction to the underground parking is 1.85m so bear this in mind if you drive a van or large 4-wheel drive).
If you are arriving 'on spec' you can leave your car in the even bigger outdoor carpark, which requires no pre-booking and has 1600 spaces. Again, it is open 24 hours a day and the tariffs are 7 per day and 43 per week.
There is a further parking option at the bottom of the valley at Les Prodains if you don't wish to drive your car all the way up to Avoriaz itself. Here, you can leave your car for free in the uncovered long stay parking area and take the Prodains cable car up to resort. If you own a property or are doing a season in Avoriaz, then you can buy a season pass for the Prodains covered car parking for 590 (owners) or 535 (seasonnaires).
On arrival, resort staff are available to greet you and guide you from the parking area or lift station to your accommodation via one of the in-resort transportation methods. |

| Public Transport in Avoriaz |
Public transport in Avoriaz is very good and definitely of a more novel variety than your average ski resort! As a car free resort, the only traffic you will see are horse drawn sleighs and shuttles, thus preserving the environment and ensuring your well-being. This means that you are not able to drive to your accommodation or around town but all apartments are ski-in/ski-out and the resort amenities are right on your doorstep. However, the transport options at your disposal are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
On arrival in Avoriaz, there are baggage sleds available at the entrance points to the resort as well as at the base of each residence to help you manoeuvre your luggage to and from your apartment. They work like supermarket trolleys and require a 1 coin to release one which you get back when you return it to one of the tying up points. There are plenty to go round so dont hog them and keep them in your apartment!
Horse drawn sleighs are also available from 8am to 7pm, 7 days a week. With 28 sleighs and around 100 horses they are a common sight on the streets and one of the highlights of visiting Avoriaz. Journey prices range from 5 - 13 depending on how far you want to go and luggage is charged at 2 per bag. You can pick one up at the entrance of the resort (Accueil), the outdoor parking P2, the top station of the Prodains cable car and in the centre of town. They also offer various scenic trips around the resort for 15 - 35.
You will also see a fleet of shuttles zipping around the resort which look a little like minibuses on caterpillar tracks. They operate 7 days a week from 7pm to 8am and during the winter cost 8 per family. Throughout the summer season they are 7 per family, or free on presentation of a weekly parking ticket. Individual prices are 1.50 per person from 8am to 10pm and 3 per person from 10pm to 8am. |
