Intermediates and above will appreciate the vast range of Avoriaz which has nearly 250kms of reds and blues to choose from. The resort is more snow-sure than Morzine due to its elevation of 1800m and snow lasts at village level for much of the season. Avoriaz offers some tougher terrain with runs on the Hauts Forts and down to Les Prodains including the World Cup downhill course. There are also three parks, a super pipe and "The Stash" in Avoriaz as well as Le Proclou, one of the best beginner slopes in the area. Truly something for everyone.

From the center of town in Morzine the Pleney cable car lifts you to the summit in a matter of minutes. Once on the hill there is great skiing for beginners and intermediates as well as some fantastic off piste options. The areas of Nyon, Randroilly and Les Gets are well connected and serviced with fast, modern lifts so that exploring these sectors is easy. Perfect for gentler skiers the Morzine/Les Gets ski are is covered in cruisy, tree lined runs that afford shelter from the elements in bad weather days and stunning views when the skies are clear.

James travels to the Portes du Soleil to look at the towns of Avoriaz and Morzine. With over 650km of pisted runs the Portes du Soleil is the largest connected ski area in the world, and with over thirteen snowparks and a natural park, "The Stash" is one of the most popular resorts in Europe with freestyle skiers and snowboarders. The two towns, Morzine and Avoriaz, have very differant styles and feel but both offer excellent skiing and are convientiently close to Geneve.
