It's been a long time coming but after months of delays and speculation, it has just been announced that the new high tech, super expensive 3S gondola will finally whir into action this Saturday.

The ski season may be nearly over but it's definitely a case of 'better late than never' for the new lift which will replace the 50 year old Prodains cable car that runs between Morzine and Avoriaz. Whilst skiers and snowboarders may not be able to take full advantage of the new service until next winter, the news will be welcomed by bikers, hikers and other summer visitors to the valley who will now be able to travel between Morzine and Avoriaz in just 4 minutes.

The new cable car uses '3S technology' meaning it uses 2 carrying cables and 1 hauling cable and is designed to transport between 2,000 and 2,400 passengers per hour. The current Prodains cable car can only manage an uplift of 450 people an hour.

News of the opening of the new gondola comes just 24 hours after plans for a link between the centres of Morzine and Avoriaz were announced yesterday.
